There are many ways to say "I love you" but in the eyes of Carmen Hurtado, the act of helping someone to build their own home is perhaps the most powerful. The appreciation Carmen has for the goodwill of Habitat for Humanity and the Builders Blitz sponsors runs deep.

A mother of four children, Carmen came to Bloomington to start life over after she fled an environment of domestic violence. Bloomington gave her an opportunity to improve her ability to support her family and also unite with her sibilings who were already living here.

A hard-working mother, Carmen can't wait to see her house constructed during the Builders Blitz. She has already logged more than 250 hours of sweat equity working on construction and at the Habitat ReStore. She is counting down the hours until she can move into her new home. John Ingram Builder, Inc.  John Ingram Builder, Inc. partners again with Plumb, Inc. for Builders Blitz 2010. A family business, co-owner Larry Ingram looks forward to the opportunity to work with his family out on the Habitat construction site. Founded in 1971, John Ingram Builder specializes in mainly contract custom homes. When asked why it is important to him to participate in the event, Larry says, "because it seems to be our only answer to offer affordable housing." Habitat is grateful to Larry and the entire John Ingram team for building hope in Monroe County.

Plumb, Inc. returns for its second Builders Blitz this year. Owner Tim Laughlin formed the company in 1986 and specializes in custom home building and remodeling. "Habitat is a wonderful cause," he said. "Providing affordable housing meets a real need in Bloomington and expands our understanding of what community means." That sense of community is one of Laughlin's favorite parts of Builders Blitz. What is he most looking forward to this year? "Partnering with our recipient family and getting to know them. Also, the camaraderie with the other builders is a lot of fun."
